As I ascended the stairs, even my forebodings had forebodings.
The stone bears on the balustrade leading to the bursar’s office were as welcoming and warm as the lady herself.

It wasn’t a terribly convenient staircase, but the senior tutor knew knowledge was a steep climb and he didn’t believe new students warranted an overly warm welcome.
